Low Fives: 02/15/09

Despite the feeling of ‘love’ in the air, the world was not devoid of lows:

  1. Okay, even though I waxed poetic about the Charles and Emma kind of love, Darwin was not perfect. Like any scientist, when he was considering the pros and cons of marriage, he wrote it down in a list called, “Marry. Not Marry. This is the question.” Highlights from the marriage pros: “… better than a dog anyhow.”
  2. Don’t want your son to smoke pot? Just tell him that smoking pot increases the risk of testicular cancer. From my experience, guys take things that involve their genitals very seriously.
  3. The Rihanna and Chris Brown debacle is just plain stupid. Brown’s father came out saying that he was “remorseful.” I bet he is. This could be a career killer. All I can say is, Rihanna don’t go back.
  4. Most folks dream of getting married someday. But Bacon reader, Jennifer Lou points out that in some countries marriage is being utilized as a means to oppress women and molest children.
  5. And oh God, watching these parents pimp out their teen-aged kids to The Sun is a new low. Teen pregnancies happen all of the time but what parent would allow their kid to pose for  a photo shoot to be on the cover of that rag?

But let’s leave this post on a high note, shall we? Check out this cutie pie duo called Pomplamoose:

  1. Maybe it’s that time of the month or something but the article on Saudi girls being married off at 10 almost made me cry. Is it just me or did that article sorta imply that if a girl’s not married by the time she’s 15 she’s a spinster?

In the interest of full disclosure, please note that product links redirecting you to other sites such as Amazon, BlueHost, Freshbooks and OpenSky may take you a purchase page of a company where I am a member of an affiliate program. As a result, I will often get a small percentage of the revenue or a commission off of something you have purchased. I am not otherwise paid to link to these sites, nor do I link to any products that I don't actually use or covet in real life. On the rare occasion I accept payment to review a product, it will be duly noted in its associated post.

Have no fear - you are under no obligation to buy anything to get the full enjoyment of this site. We can still be friends even if you never click on an affiliate link. Rest assured, this is all low pressure. I will never show up at your door with tiny vials of Avon perfume or trial jars of pearl cream to entice you. That said, I do truly appreciate when you do purchase something from a linked site - it all helps to keep the lights on and a roof over our heads.
