Poop In My Lettuce

Broccoli is good!

But wait, don’t eat too much broccoli!

Too much broccoli causes cancer!

Anytime I think about germs or toxins or product recalls or bird flu or conflicting medical studies, I start to get a bit paranoid. This is especially so since the media tends to gravitate on stories about things that are going to kill me.

Nowadays, I try to take a moderate approach to living. I try to do things that have the least impact on the environment, but I am also human. I make bad choices.

In the great scheme of things, I secretly think that we really have little control over our destiny. Be it God, Allah, Buddha or Ganesh – it may be that we are just hanging on to this life with just a hope and a prayer.

  1. I agree. I try to buy organic, non-toxic, greener items when I can, but you have to balance that against cost, convenience, time, and energy. It’s not easy.

  2. I’m like you, I try not to worry about it too much. I avoid processed food as much as possible and wash my produce w/ fruit & veggie rinse. What else can we do?

  3. The U.S. is supposed to have one of the safest food sources in the world but one of the reasons I went vegan so many years ago – and started shopping at the co-op – was over concerns about Mad Cow Disease and hormones in milk. And my son and I do eat unprocessed as much as possible. But the last couple of years E Coli has popped up in our favorite produce, like spinach and strawberries. So frustrating! And this whole Salmonella scare, ack! At least it doesn’t seem to be affecting our organic bulk peanut butter. Yet.

    Sigh.

  4. Everything is bad for you. Alcohol, drugs, sex, eating, breathing – all bad. The only thing that has not (yet) been proven to be bad for us is … death. :)
