Turning To The Stars

During difficult times some people turn to God. I turn to astrology.

freewill_012909

  1. I have a lovely daughter who challenges me to be a better person.
  2. I have a passion, it’s called writing.
  3. I have really wonderful friends like “the Coven” and Rene.
  4. I have the best blog readers in the world and consider all of you friends of some sort too.
  5. And I feel amazed that some of you wrote to me to tell me something nice.
  6. I have a lot of gratitude for those writers who have helped me, inspired me and made me laugh. You guys know who you are.
  7. I am grateful for not being afraid to fail anymore.
  8. I am happy that I reconnected with my cousin in Portland.
  9. And my friends Melissa and Andrea.
  10. I am glad that I have siblings. Even though we don’t talk and are estranged for the most part.
  11. I am thankful for an abundance of work, when some people have no work at all.
  12. I am blessed with incredible luck.
  13. Amazed that doing a little video blog like Momversation could help me get over my fear of the camera and help me to get over my self-image issues.
  14. Feeling lucky that I got to take some time off to figure out what direction to go in.
  15. Thankful that I own a house in a city where it’s really expensive to own a house.
  16. And most of the time I am glad that it’s small because it means that there is less to clean.
  17. Thankful to be entering into a “renaissance period” with my daughter.
  18. Even though I am still out of shape, my body keeps getting stronger and I keep getting less winded. This is awesome.
  19. Grateful for those people who leave magazines like US Weekly and InTouch at the gym so I can escape the reality once in a while.
  20. Feeling that my heart is becoming whole, after being broken for a long time.
  21. Can’t get over the fact that I am actually glad that I had a difficult childhood because I draw from that strength ALL OF THE TIME.
  22. I am blessed with a vivid imagination.
  23. And I can draw.
  24. And paint. Though I don’t do it enough.
  25. I am glad that the Internet exists. There was no such thing as a blog 10 or so years ago.
  26. Even though it’s hard, sometimes I am glad that a certain someone’s father doesn’t participate. I can’t imagine not spending weekends with her. Selfish, I know.
  27. There is a Suzy Sunshine in me to counter act my general Debbie Downer attitude.
  28. I feel like I can do anything.
  29. Or get along with [most] people.
  30. I am so happy when I am listening to the Beastie Boys at the gym.
  31. And when I’m sharing the music of my teens with my teen.
  32. Or the reverse. When she shares music with me.
  33. I have gotten over the stigma of raised eyebrows when I tell people that I blog. Or video blog.
  34. I’m proud when I tell people that I am a writer.
  35. I’m glad that I can change my mind about something without feeling like I’m disappointing someone.
  36. I am thankful for my neighbors (not the ones that tan like nobody’s business) who are completely awesome and always helpful.
  37. I know I keep saying this over and over, but I’m really glad that we have a new President.
  38. And First Lady.
  39. I’m glad for the time that I spent with my Mother. Even though the time was so short.
  40. Tom Marchant was my high school counselor. He was a lifesaver. And a gifted listener.
  41. Bacon and Bourbon. My two favorite B words.
  42. I can’t tell you how much I love being Asian. It makes me really proud.
  43. Or how lucky I am to be the child of immigrants.
  44. Because it makes you really appreciate being an American.
  45. Seattle is awesome. People generally want to do what is right. Like all of the time.
  46. I embrace the fact that I have experienced poverty.
  47. I embrace the fact that I have felt rich (but not in the monetary sense).
  48. I thank God I never got married to any of the people that asked.
  49. I thank God that I still believe in love.
  50. Two years ago things seemed so bleak. Now they seem full of promise.

So I didn’t make it to 101. It’s kind of hard right now. But everything good in my life was always a bit hard.

  1. Hey – it’s a great list and just the fact that you made it is nice. It’s always a good reminder to be appreciative of the things we do have, especially when times get hard. :)

  6. This is awesome. Its so seldom that we do take time out of our busy days to reflect on and appreciate what we do have. I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog if for no other reason than it’s so very real. I have so much respect and admiration for you and other bloggers who have the guts to open the floodgates and share what most people consider very personal information with the world. Its like freeeeeeeee therapy! I love it!

    Don’t stop writing, you rock!

  9. Funerals are hard, no one can blame you for not wanting to go to one. And that doesn’t mean you loved your uncle any less.

  11. Hi, Just saw the link to your blog on CNN, and can relate…I, too, have just started a weight loss journey to lose the 40+ pounds I have gained since having children. I have found 2 things to be huge: No sugar, and limiting simple carbs (lovely things like rice and french bread), it seems to be helping, thought I’d pass it along. Also, I saw you have a teenage daughter…I found the following book to be a real eye-opener, not necessarily a “solution-oriented” book, but more of “this is why your delightful child grows two heads and spits fire at times” It’s called “Get out of my life, but first could you drive me and Cheryl to the mall?” Here’s a link. Good luck with everything, I’ll keep watching!

  12. Hey!

I know what you mean about the rough childhood thing. It hurts sometimes but I am glad because I know I am strong. =)

    Take care and good luck
