You Have A Big Butt

Because I was in a hurry, I had Paige take my pictures instead of using a tripod like I usually do. To my dismay, after taking the photos she looked at my profile and  matter-of-factly said, “You have a big butt.” Normally, I might raise an eyebrow and grimace at such a blunt statement (like I really needed a reminder) but she said meant it in the most complimentary way. I think I’ve mentioned that Paige is preoccuppied with the size of her butt - but totally for the opposite reason. Apparently, telling me that I have a big butt is a “compliment” in her alternate flat-ass universe.  In my dimension (and the dimension of most everyone I know), that’s just crazy talk.

To sum up last week all I can say was that it was a toughie. With my Uncle’s passing I found myself wanting to just stay under the covers and not talk to anyone. This is a bit different than in times past when I just wanted to bake cupcakes, eat them and then hide under the covers and not talk to anyone. Skipping the cupcakes is an improvement.

I weighed myself this morning and according to the scale, I lost a whopping 4 lbs in one week. I attribute the “big loss” to three things:

  1. No more PMS.
  2. According to the GoWear Fit, I have been burning a lot more calories since I started working a day job. It’s actually a significant amount more. I guess all those little things like walking to the bus stop add up. Yay work!
  3. My appetite went south with all the emotional upheaval. I’m just not hungry and I am finding that I have to remind myself to eat.

Sadly, because I was down in the dumps, I only worked out three days last week instead of the usual six. As a result, I found that my insomnia issues came right back to haunt me. On Saturday, the third day in a row that I skipped out on exercise, I found myself watching a mini-marathon of the show Heroes via the internet late into the night. Needless to say, staying awake till 3:00 am was a really bad idea. I ended up sleeping in till 10:00 am on Sunday, thus perpetuating another late night last night.

At this very minute I am breaking down and drinking a cup of black coffee. I really need it and damn, it taste so good.

In other “pound” shattering news, my weightloss cohorts write their thoughts on that four letter word … D-I-E-T:

Nurit:

I don’t believe in diets. There’s always something new; eat this, don’t eat that, eat more of this, eat less of that. Fat-free, low-fat, sugar-free, gluten-free, no-carbs… South Beach, Atkins, Whatever… Enough already! Even the USDA can’t make up their minds about the “pyramid”…” To read more click 1 family. friendly. food.

  1. I’m so happy to have found your group of gals who are blogging about weight loss. I’m a food blogger struggling w/ the same… and have shifted the focus of my food blog to healthier recipes and a personal weight loss journal. It will be inspiring to check in on all of you! Congrats on the progress so far!

  2. Well, after gaining 30 lbs last year I’ve decided that enough is enough. My bloggie friend Tena, over at http://therapyfortena.blogspot.com/ has a “Kiss My Big Fat Blog Ass Goodbye” and we report back on Mondays. She lost 3 lbs this week. I ddidn’t realize that we were supposed to start LAST week to report this week (excuses, excuses). You should link up to her. I’m going to try something different. I have a lifetimes of diets behind me so now I’m going to write down EVERYTHING I put in my mouth. Hopefully that will up my accountability…we’ll see next Monday.

  3. Yea, you look so much happier in your picture! Cheering you on, Etta

  4. You have a great attitude. You don’t let the little bumps (or PMS) get you down for long. Keep it up and you’ll reach your goal in no time!

  5. From a white Scottish chick who has been afflicted with ‘flat ass syndrome’ I have always wanted a bigger butt. I can understand Paige’s admiration. A nice butt makes dresses/pants/shorts etc. look good. That hanging piece of fabric is so not sexy.

  6. I’m still perplexed as to how my butt manages to look great from the side, and horrible straight on. How does that work?

Anyways, love the blog & always looking forward to the next post. Cheers to you and your continued success with the weight loss. ^_^

  7. I have to tell you, you look much thinner in those photos than your stats imply! Lovely lady! Inside and out!

  8. I have the same exact problem with the whole exercising/insomnia thing. If I don’t work out I can’t sleep, period. =P Lol. I’m trying to get in shape as well so keeping up with your weekly stats has actually motivated me a little more. Also, I just got into watching “Lost” and seeing all those ridiculously good looking people on a beach all day has really motivated me to want to be ridiculously good looking so I can go lay on a beach all day lol.

Anyway, congrats on all the weight loss! By the way, did you ever mention how much weight total you want to lose?

  9. Oh Aimee, you’re such a sweetie.
It must be the angle of the photo because the scale definitely taunts me with the 180′s number. I have actually heard that I “don’t look like I weigh that much” so many times that I actually started weighing myself at the gym in hopes that I actually don’t weigh that much. No such luck.

@Lesley Paige’s father comes from good Scottish stock. I think she will feel comforted that she is not alone in her dilemma. :)

  10. Great job with the weight loss!!! Hard work does pay off!

I lost 1.2 pounds, 213.6 pounds lost so far.

  11. WOW! you look so great! Good job! You continue to inspire me. Which is what I need right now. PMS = lack of motivation, working in bakery = lots of sweet snacks add that together and it equals a scale not moving for me. *blah* But reading about you makes me smile and gives me renewed determination! Thank you.

  12. Just recently found your blog and am really enjoying. I think you are beautiful and yeah, butts are big these days (heh) so don’t be hard on yourself. (My husband wishes his were bigger. I wish I could oblige and give him my gut to go towards his butt, sigh.)

I too am working on my bod, been neglected far too long. Must make the time to exercise more. And sure if I laid off the wine it would really help, sigh.

  13. I read about your story on cnn. I am a big supporter of healthy life styles, and so I think it is great you are making such a positive change. Many people don’t have the courage to be as open about this personal struggle as you. Good luck. Don’t give up. You’re doing great!

  14. I’m really sorry about the uncle passing. It’s no consolation, but you look a lot smaller this week. I’m going to have to start taking pictures like that, I think it would be good for motivation.

  15. I recently started reading your blog, and wanted to say that I really enjoy your writing style. As an aspiring blogger, I appreciate how honest you are with your readers, and consequently with yourself.
However… anyone who says you’re a fat a** has obviously been watching too much teen porn to function in the real world. You are beautiful. I wish you the best of luck with your goals, but I honestly don’t think you “need” to lose weight. If it will make you feel good, then you’re doing the right thing, but people who say nasty things to complete strangers just have too much time on their hands. Talk about main-lining bad karma into the world. I have a pretty big ass, and my mother has always been jealous of it, so Paige isn’t alone in her envy. Anyway, good luck.

  16. Giyen, you’re looking fantastic, 4lbs, it’s happening! You’re always such an inspiration, thanks.

  17. Hehe, it’s time to queue up Sir Mix-a-lot’s “Baby Got Back,” huh? ;) Seriously, I think your daughter would get a kick out of that (although I do vaguely remember there are some raunchy lyrics that might be too explicit for a 14-year-old — not like I cared at that age, but still).

Way to go on shrinking! It’s noticeable, too! Keep up the good work.

  18. You’re doing great! It’s nice that the job has an unexpected benefit.
