Back On The Juice

While Paige was at her hairapy appointment at Phase 3, I was three doors down at Cherry Street Coffee House (pictured above) on First Avenue in Belltown.

I started drinking coffee again when I went to visit my Aunt for the last time before she passed away. Early in the morning on the day that I was supposed to leave, I was in the maternity ward fawning over baby Lily for the first time. It was just before 3:00 am. I left for the southern Oregon Coast 6 hours later.

I couldn’t have made it through the 7 1/2 hour drive and the subsequent days in Coos Bay without being fueled by caffeine. I had a couple of late nights pondering the meaning of life and consequently spent the daytime mainlining coffee to keep me awake and alert. And let me tell you, it was not easy. Hospital coffee sucks. In fact, the coffee in the entire city of Coos Bay sucks.  The coffee there is only palatable with 4 sugar packets and 2 shakes of Coffeemate. So disgusting, I know.

I had been trying to temper my consumption after the trip, but when I went up to Vancouver, espresso doppio became my best friend. It has been a slippery slope since … I really do love some good coffee. And c’mon, I’m in Seattle – where there’s multiple coffee shops on each block. It’s was only a matter of time before I fell off the wagon.

  1. I hear you–sometimes, you just gotta have it!

  2. Bring it on guilt free! You could have worse addictions..

  3. I went off caffeine a few times and periodically I fall off the wagon. Sometimes it just tastes so good!
I am from Italy so when i go back home it’s really tough to stay off the cappuccino – I can smell the aroma several blocks away.

  4. I’m totally off the wagon these days too. Ahhh the juice, how you pep me up and make me smile. My neighborhood is like a coffee mecca too, what’s a girl to do but dive right in and join the masses. As Amy said, could be worse, right?

  5. Why is it so hard to give up for good???

I gave it up for a good 4 or 5 months, and then one cup of coffee and you’re hooked again. But honestly, I physically FEEL better when I don’t drink coffee. Coffee feels like it pulls rough edges through my body and I come out at the other end worse for wear.

Why then, is it so hard to quit?
