Mommy Goggles

Mommy goggles are kinda like beer goggles – you’re under the influence (and delusional) and see what you want to see. In my case, every time I look at Paige, I still see this sweet little girl with big brown eyes (age 2):

Paige, Age 2

It’s always hard for me to reconcile that 14 years have flown by and she actually looks like this now:

And this:

Or this:

Give me strength.

And a shotgun to keep the boys at bay.

  1. She still looks like a very sweet girl with beautiful big brown eyes. She’s just maybe not so little anymore. But she’s still littler than she’ll ever be again. Treasure these years before she goes to college.

  2. Um, yes, a shotgun will be necessary- Paige is absolutely lovely. Amazingly, she looks similar to when she was two. Keep on keepin’ on, Giyen!

OMG, you always strike a nerve with me when you talk about Paige. My daughter is 15 and I totally do the same thing, where the hell’s my damn baby? And who replaced her with this ogre? Ok, not really an ogre but not so sweet anymore. We had a huge fight the other night where she told me that it’s my fault that she’s not nicer, because….wait for it….I’m too nice to her. I always forgive her when she’s mean and cranky me. Aaahhhh! I almost blew a gasket. That girl’s going to be the death of me.

  4. Tears in my eyes about the pain of being a momma watching your kids grow up. My daughter is only 17 months old and it’s all disappearing so quickly, no matter how hard I try to treasure every moment!

  5. Wow, she looks remarkably the same except for the fact that she’s grown from a toddler to a teen. This also makes me want to go home and cling to my two-year-old who’s growing up just a bit too fast for my liking. Seriously, it wasn’t all that long ago that she was born…

  6. She is gorgeous. Even though my son is only 1, I still see him sometimes as that sweet 7 week old baby who smiled at me at 4:00 in the morning for the first time. They do grow so, SO fast.
    Get your shotgun loaded…

  7. OMG your daughter is gorgeous. Better get that gun, lol! I’m with ya on the Mommy goggles – I’ve got two little girls now, and I know I’ll always see them as sweet little babies, even when they’re all grown up.

  10. OMG Paige is a knockout. I would kill for that smile! I can see why you’re worried about the young fellas! ha!

  11. She’s stunning. My son is only two years old and I can’t imagine him being anything but my little baby.

I love it when you write about Paige. It shows me that us Mama are pretty much the same no matter how old our kids are.

  13. I have read your blog for awhile, and I have to ask this, and by all means, I mean NO offense:

How does the female Asian population have such long perfectly curling hair?! I know not all of the population is like that, but I have an acquaintance that has hair the same way! Does she curl it every morning?? Tell us her secrets! :)

She is growing up gorgeous, good luck keeping the boys at bay!

  16. I know the feeling all too well. Our daughter is 14-going-on-25, and somehow, she’s grown up without us noticing…how does that happen???

I’m gonna still see her as the first picture … that’s how I remember her when I first met her. :o ) No matter how old they get, they’ll always be our “baby.”

  18. Did you give birth to “Dora the Explorer”? Even her “now” pictures look like what they’ve recently started marketing as an older Dora.

    She is beautiful. Wow~

  19. She was adorable then, and just as adorable now.

Yeah – this title is a little less morbid. :)

  21. Your daughter is beautiful then and now. :)

I look at pictures of my kids and feel surprised that they were so small or innocent.
Now when my 8 year old goes on her pre-pre-teen performances I try to recall her as a toddler……but it’s sometimes hard to do

    Cheers,

  22. wow. she’s stunning—-but that’s not the point.
yesterday was a longlong toddler day.
day 9 of husband being out of town and a day where I really did begin to WISH IT AWAY.
long for her to be older.

today? Im back to trying to hold on to the three year old in her.
