P is for Pensive

Me: What is wrong?

Paige: Nothing.

Me: Yes there is, I can tell.

Paige: Nothing is wrong.

Me: Just tell me the general “gist” of what’s wrong. I can tell something is up because you are ooozing negativity right now.

Paige: I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT.

Me: FINE, but don’t give me attitude about it.

Paige: I’M NOT GIVING YOU ATTITUDE ABOUT IT.

Me: OKAY FINE YOU’RE NOT GIVING ME ATTITUDE ABOUT IT.

Later on via text message …

Me: Just wanted to tell you I love you. Enjoy the sun today.

Paige: I love you too. I can’t enjoy the sunshine because I will be inside all day so it doesn’t matter.

Paige: Can I come home? I don’t want to go to school.

Me: What is going on?

Paige: Nothing. I SAID NOTHING IS WRONG.

Paige: I need a mental health day.

  1. Ah, teenage angst. I remember that feeling. I vote cave and let her have the mental health day.

  2. I get a mental health day when mine stay IN school. My teens have a half day today and I’m not sure how it’s going to go. Counting down the minutes before their “ooozing negativity” jumps off the bus at 1pm. Good luck!

  3. Oh to be 14 again. Sometimes I can just feel myself making that face.

  4. Oh! That reminds me of my husband – Me: “why are you making that face?” Him: “I’m not! That’s just my face!” :l

  9. ohh be glad she talks to you about it. i would’ve just grabbed my best friend by the arm, said “let’s go!”, walk a mile to his house, hop into the hand-me-down car he inherited from his grandma that he can’t legally drive because he’s 15, and gone lord-know’s-where at that age.

In the interest of full disclosure, please note that product links redirecting you to other sites such as Amazon, BlueHost, Freshbooks and OpenSky may take you a purchase page of a company where I am a member of an affiliate program. As a result, I will often get a small percentage of the revenue or a commission off of something you have purchased. I am not otherwise paid to link to these sites, nor do I link to any products that I don't actually use or covet in real life. On the rare occasion I accept payment to review a product, it will be duly noted in its associated post.

Have no fear - you are under no obligation to buy anything to get the full enjoyment of this site. We can still be friends even if you never click on an affiliate link. Rest assured, this is all low pressure. I will never show up at your door with tiny vials of Avon perfume or trial jars of pearl cream to entice you. That said, I do truly appreciate when you do purchase something from a linked site - it all helps to keep the lights on and a roof over our heads.
