West Seattle, My Current Hood
July 16th, 2009

Before my current neighborhood gets all bent out of shape because I am having an emotional affair with my old neighborhood – I thought I would give props to my unpretentious, (mostly) working class, melting pot of a place I call home. I mean, where else can you find 50 versions of the same rambler within a 6 block radius? Or find Thai Ice Tea Ice Cream? There’s not another place that I know of where you can (legally) camp in the middle of the city. Or get bacon and eggs (or a cheeseburger) in a record store. West Seattle rocks the shit out of this town. And to top it off, we have cool bloggers that live around these parts too.
And in all honesty, you just can’t have a ’skeleton playing the drums’ art piece on your manicured lawn on Capitol Hill. With all those D.I.N.K.s and techie millionaires, it’s generally poo-poo-ed upon. They just can’t get away with it like we can in the “Wild West” of Seattle.

PS. Can you believe that Paige has never had braces?!? This kid won the genetic lottery.
PPS. If you are wondering where I got that breakfast panini, just go here. While you’re waiting for your breakfast, get a cookie. I hear that they are divine.
PPPS. I got a new camera! A Nikon D50. I found it on Craigslist for under $300. It came with the kit lens and a 50mm and I couldn’t be happier. I originally wanted to get the new Nikon D5000, but the new more frugal Giyen has decided that a fledgling photographer does not need all the bells and whistles – yet. I’ll practice my photography before I commit to buying the big guns.
