Thank you for posting this. It really put things in perspective. I am ashamed to say I didn't know about invisiblepeople.tv. Thank you for posting.
I needed to get out of some of my own stuff and issues with the blog and be reminded of the many things we can do!
thank you

This made me cry. I grew up homeless. My mom, brother, and I never lived in a tent...but we did live in domestic violence shelters and our car (just like Jewel, except I didn't write a book, I just went to therapy). So many people think that the homeless are lazy. "They just need to get jobs..." But the truth is that is so much more complicated then that.
Thanks Giyen- you touched my heart. You are good people.

My town was in the news not too long ago for being considered one of the meanest places for homeless people -- and it's absolutely deserved. Because of a violent incident that happened in an area called "Tent City," police issued an eviction notice to the people in that encampment. It was technically private property that the land owners previously didn't care about. Once that violent incident occurred, they changed their minds rather quickly. The homeless shelter has a number limit of how many meals can be served and how many beds are available. The need for such far exceeds their rations. It's mind-boggling. All these people need are some love and care from their fellow humankind, and yet we've got people around here who just don't care enough to do something to help. All it takes is to buy someone lunch -- I did that once when I was a little better off financially, and I can't tell you how good it felt to see that couple so happy to have a hot meal and fresh water. All it takes is to stop and offer some sort of help. Got a closet full of clothes you never wear? Stop and look at the clothes those less fortunate are wearing. It really gets you thinking.

Anyhow, enough of my rambling. Go you for having a heart and stopping to help others! We need more people like you in this world.
