Thanks to the folks at Coca-Cola, I am in New York City for three glorious days to attend an event at Gateway National Recreation Area at Riis Landing. I am part of their “America Is Your Park” campaign, which you can find out more about here.
All I can say is that this City is blowing my mind. I never want to leave. I heart NY!
On another note, today is the last day to enter the Ritz Crackerful Giveaway for a $100 Visa gift card. It’s not too late, enter here. Sorry folks, the Giveaway is over. : )

My sister recently posted this picture of my Auntie on Facebook. I hadn’t seen the photo before and was quite taken with it’s vintage sepia tones. I wish I could ask her what she was thinking at that moment. If you had known my Aunt, you would have come to realize that underneath that twinset and poodle skirt was a steely constitution. She may fool you with her ladylike demeanor, but I get the feeling that she would have preferred taking off on that motorcycle, rather than sit side-saddle for a photo op.

This morning the alarm went off at 5:00 am and had this really visceral reaction about being late for a rescheduled coffee date on the 7:10 ferry. I gave Matt such a hard time for not making it yesterday (because he slept in) that it was a matter of pride for me to be on time today. If I wasn’t on time, it would negate my right to be smug about always being on time and I absolutely could not have that. The stakes were high.
But then again, it was 5:00 am and in a moment of weakness I made the executive decision to rest my eyes for another 10 minutes. Just 10 more minutes. I woke up again at 5:20. To most sentient coffee-fueled people, an hour and a half would seem like enough time to make it to the ferry BUT I was still clinging onto my REM state and mistakenly thought I only had 20 minutes to get out the door. Clothes, hairbrushes and toothbrushes went flying. I shot out the front door and rushed to the Park and Ride to catch the bus to the ferry dock. I actually didn’t have to leave the house till 6:40 am.
A couple of things should have clued me into what time it was:
I ignored all these signs and instead thought:
When the ferry started to leave the dock, I realized that Matt wasn’t on the boat. A flash of irritation hit me, “I CAN’T BELIEVE HE DIDN’T EVEN TEXT ME TO TELL ME HE WASN’T GOING TO MAKE IT. UGH! TWO DAYS IN A ROW! RRRAAAWWWRRR!!!!”
I pulled out my phone to double check if he had called to cancel and then came to the realization that it was 6:10 am, not 7:10.
“RRRAAAAWWWWRRRR!!!”
Now normally, I would sit and be irritated for the rest of the day but this is where flow comes in handy. Instead fretting about losing the sleep and getting all confused about the new Asians and Black people on Vashon, I laughed it off and am now writing this post. It worked out. I went with the flow.
