Low Fives: 02/01/09

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Low fives this week was like shooting a fish in a barrel:

  1. If you ever wondered where the dogs they sell on the internet come from, just read this story. 600 dogs seized, 80% of them are pregnant. You do the math.
  2. Jessica Simpon’s a bigger star than ever.” God, I can’t believe that this story won’t die. And perhaps this is a bit snarky, but those high waisted jeans are the real travesty in this story.
  3. I watched Al Gore testify about global warming before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on CNN. I really hope they are listening.
  4. I’m sorry to all you Croc lovers, but this has crossed the line.
  5. If you didn’t see him in his full media blitz, Rod Blagojevich compared his imprisonment to the jail terms of Mandela, Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. Pathetic.

Just in case you wondered what Jessica Simpson looked like before the hoopla, look here. I was going to embed her Youtube video, but it now mysteriously says “embedding disabled by request.” Fascinating.

Here’s a video of some puppies and a cat instead:

High Fives: 01/31/09

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

I’m struggling to find some high fives this week. Every morning I have been woken up to my alarm clock blaring NPR news stories like … RECORD UNEMPLOYMENT! BIGGEST DROP IN GDP! WE’RE ALL GOING TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET!  And don’t even get me started on the whole Wall Street Executive bonus payout story. Why can’t they throw in a little happy happy now and again? Perhaps more cute puppy stories?

On with the Fives:

  1. I just found a new Twitter-er? Twitter-i? Twitter-ite? to follow. I know, maybe it’s a bit depressing to look at, but I love the Internet. Or more appropriate, I love the people on the internet. Always wanting to inform.
  2. Whatever your opinion is on the Iraq war, I think it’s always moving to hear someone say: “I just voted and I’m very happy.” I know that feeling and I’m proud that our troops had something to do with it. Sure the reasons for going to war was a big farce, but even positive things can happen in the middle of mistakes.
  3. “I believe life is good.” Listen to the audio. It’ll make your heart melt.
  4. I am officially answering the call to service and volunteering for this place. I am redoing the website and sitting on the marketing committee. Sadly, the teal has to stay.
  5. Oh yeah, you can also do some good to by participating in the:

Low Fives: 01/25/09

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

This week’s Low Fives. Grrr:

  1. IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE: “Ovaries may be pulled off and become a choking hazard.”
  2. Oh God, here we go. According to this article:Scientists have found that the pleasure women get from making love is directly linked to the size of their partner’s bank balance …the phenomenon is an “evolutionary adaptation” that is hard-wired into women, driving them to select men on the basis of their perceived quality.”
  3. It’s so nice to know that men can resist food temptation better than women. Good for them. Sucks for us.
  4. Obama’s fisting? Really? Fox News sucks.
  5. Is this a High Five or Low Five? I can’t even decide. This site was featured on CNN: (more…)
