While Paige was at her hairapy appointment at Phase 3, I was three doors down at Cherry Street Coffee House (pictured above) on First Avenue in Belltown.
I started drinking coffee again when I went to visit my Aunt for the last time before she passed away. Early in the morning on the day that I was supposed to leave, I was in the maternity ward fawning over baby Lily for the first time. It was just before 3:00 am. I left for the southern Oregon Coast 6 hours later.
I couldn’t have made it through the 7 1/2 hour drive and the subsequent days in Coos Bay without being fueled by caffeine. I had a couple of late nights pondering the meaning of life and consequently spent the daytime mainlining coffee to keep me awake and alert. And let me tell you, it was not easy. Hospital coffee sucks. In fact, the coffee in the entire city of Coos Bay sucks. The coffee there is only palatable with 4 sugar packets and 2 shakes of Coffeemate. So disgusting, I know.
I had been trying to temper my consumption after the trip, but when I went up to Vancouver, espresso doppio became my best friend. It has been a slippery slope since … I really do love some good coffee. And c’mon, I’m in Seattle – where there’s multiple coffee shops on each block. It’s was only a matter of time before I fell off the wagon.
