Internets + Facebook = Awesome

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Over the past couple of weeks I have gotten back in touch with two friends (Hi Melissa! Hi Andrea!) that I haven’t talked to in years.  I have Facebook to thank for these serendipitous reunions and I can’t help but to think that their entrance back into my life is a manifestation of the positive life changes that I am making. It’s amazing how happiness reveals itself when you surrender to the possibilities. So woo-woo sounding, I know.

In conjunction to these great events I’ve also met a ton of new people through the internets and blogosphere, some who I have met and some who I have not met yet.  It is so great to make connections with other mothers, writers, tech enthusiasts, crazy folks and just a huge crosscut of people from all over the world. And all through this little 15.4 inch laptop screen with a DSL connection. Amazing. (more…)

“We Don’t Have To Move To Canada”

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Me: “How, do you feel?”

Paige: “I’m so happy!  Now we don’t have to move to Canada!”

Last night Paige and I watched the television news coverage of the election results.  We were both on edge of our seats at first but that quickly turned into hope when key battleground states started turning blue. Hope transitioned into disbelief (what? over so soon?) and was then quickly replaced by joy when we realized that McCain was conceding. When I turned to Paige after his concession speech she had tears streaming down her face at full force.

Now I have seen my daughter cry a lot over the last 14 years and from experience I have found that tears generally fall for the following three reasons:

  1. I hate my mother because she an oppressive b*tch.
  2. My friend, boyfriend, teacher, [fill in blank] looked at me funny or said something nasty and now my life is over.
  3. I twisted my ankle playing sports and now must have my leg amputated. (more…)

Are You There God? It’s Me Bacon.

An Open Letter to God,

It’s precisely 10:24 pm on a Wednesday evening and I am pilfering through today’s top news stories which include:

  1. Palin and her $150k new wardrobe.
  2. Battle of the Robo-calls.
  3. Most Californians oppose Gay marriage.

I’ve got to tell you that this election cycle is killing me.  Literally, it’s killing me.  Every time I hear that the polls are “within a margin of error” I want to eat 5 Big Macs so I can die sooner and be put out of my misery.  Really.  Some of my fellow Americans are threatening to leave Earth if a certain someone get’s elected.  Leave Earth … can we do that? Where do I reserve my seat? Should I pack for hot or cold weather?

God, there really aren’t enough antacids to help me through the next two weeks. I can’t take another article about Sarah Palin’s red shoes or how her flag pin is as large as a child’s fist.  Can’t you do something about this?  And please, with all due respect, I don’t need something like an economic crisis or a Madonna and Guy Ritchie divorce to get my mind off of the election. Forget that. I know you think you’re doing us a favor by creating a diversion but what we really need is to stop feeling like we are on the verge of throwing up every time a new poll comes out.
