Birthday Present To Self

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

For my 35th birthday, I gifted myself with a trip to Vancouver, Canada last weekend. To say I had a good time would be an understatement. It was like fun overload. So much so that I’d say a new personality called “Canadian Giyen” has emerged. It’s like regular Giyen, but in Canada! Get it? Get it? Oh nevermind. You had to be there and be intoxicated to understand why this was so funny … because otherwise it’s not even remotely funny.

To write one big long post about all the things that we did would take forever and (a) I don’t have the brain capacity to write it all down and (b) you probably wouldn’t have the patience to read all about it anyway. For now, I’ll let you in on one thing that I did do – I had a palm/numerology/tarot reading done on Grainville Island.

Given that I have never done this before, I had no preconceptions of what to expect. It was an “in the moment” decision and quite fitting as a last hurrah before we had to leave on Sunday. Here’s a general summary of what the divination arts had to tell me, including a few of my own observations:

  1. I was surprised how accurate she was about my personality. “Tell it like it is” are the words that she used to describe me (these are words that my friends use all of the time). She said I was intuitive about people, burdened with immense responsibility and often get into trouble when I don’t follow my gut instincts about things. So true again.
  2. Tarot cards were revealing. The three cards I drew were indicative of change, letting go of the past and duality – representing recent past, present and near future, respectively. The last card was of a trapeze artist reaching out and almost grasping the hands of another trapeze artist. She said that if I didn’t let go of the past, I would miss the opportunity to move on to the next stage in life.
  3. The number 5 haunts me. Apparently, in the numerology world the number 5 represents freedom and change. Two of the tarot cards I drew were number 5s and my name broken down into numbers is replete with fives as well.
  4. It’s a shame that I don’t travel more.” She said this 3 or 4 times. It appears that the side of my hand has an abundance of travel lines which makes me especially apt for travel. This makes me very happy.
  5. “You better make a lot of money … because it runs through your fingers like water. ” Sadly, this is soooo true.
  6. Explore your spiritual self. I won’t be satisfied if my life doesn’t serve a greater purpose. There needs to be purpose and meaning in the things that I do and I need to actively pursue spirituality in order to find my life’s purpose.
  7. I like to be in the limelight. Uh, I don’t know about this one. Then again, I am a blogger …
  8. No love in sight. Remember when I said that I was ready for love? Apparently, being ready is not enough. There’s still a lonely road ahead of me, with no committed relationship in sight. The only thing that she “saw” was someone “off to the side” who is very shy and is watching me from a distance. Normally, she see’s either something definitive or nothing at all. To see someone off to the side was very odd to her. This is odd to me too.
  9. Go north. She said that I needed to go north because it was calling me. Where  north is beyond me. She threw out Greenland and Iceland as possible suspects. I can’t even imagine …
